What this is: A voluntary study collecting anonymous writing samples, so we can understand how people actually compose, revise, and paraphrase text.
Who it's for: Anyone who is 18 or older. If that's not you, please stop here.
What you'll do: One writing task on a physical keyboard, for around 10 minutes. Depending on the prompt, that could mean writing from your own head, paraphrasing a short passage, or typing out text exactly as shown.
What we're storing: The random prompt you received, the text you write, your age range, basic device info, and the timing behind your key presses, pauses, cursor movement, deletions, and paste attempts. That timing data is the whole focus of this study.
What we don't want: Your name, email, phone number, address, or anything else that could identify you or someone else. Please keep responses anonymous.
What happens to it: Your anonymous submission gets stored, analyzed, and combined with everyone else's. We use it for research, and to train and improve software and machine-learning models (including commercially). Once it's part of that combined dataset, it's no longer something you individually own.
How safe it is: We take precautions to protect what's submitted. Nothing online is fully unbreakable, and we're not going to pretend otherwise, but your data is fully anonymized.
Changing your mind: You are welcome to close the tab at any time before you submit and no data will be transmitted. Once it's sent, it's anonymous and we can't track it down or delete it for you.
Risk: About as risky as any other typing you'd do online. If you become uncomfortable, just stop.
